Can take up to 2 years and includes iris scans, fingerprints, facial scans, bio data, 8 U.S. government agencies, 5 separate security databases, 6 background checks and 3 in-person interviews. 

The countries with the highest number of resettles refugees to the U.S. in 2018 were: Democratic Republic of Congo, Myanmar, Ukraine.

Of the nine U.S. resettlement agencies around the country, FIVE are in Houston. 

Refugees do not apply for resettlement, the UNHCR identifies them. Only the most vulnerable [medical needs, women/girls/children at risk, survivors of violence/torture] are considered. Criminals or persons posing a security threat are not considered.
